Today, May 27, the 18th anniversary of the deportation of Bosnian-Herzegovinian refugees from Montenegro in 1992, Non-governmental organizations will once more support the victims’ families in their painful efforts to make sure that sufferings of their loved ones are not forgotten, and remain as a permanent warning to future generations.

Moraca CanyonLast week, environmental association Green Home presented, under the auspices of the public debate on impact studies for the project to build a cascade of power dams on the Morača River, the petition warning of potential major dangers that the plan present to the environment to the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of Montenegro.

MoracaEnvironmental organizations from Montenegro and WWF warn that the plan to build four power dams on the Morača River, has to be changed and amended to provide precise answers to questions related to its environmental protection aspects. They started the “Think About it, Rework the Plan” campaign to that effect.

The “I am a Roma Woman” regional campaign is presented today, Thursday, April 8, 2010, at the House of Human Rights in Sarajevo, on the occasion of the International Day of the Roma. The question of women's rights in Montenegro has not made the list of priority state policies so far. Although the Government of Montenegro decided for policies of European integrations, which demands important steps forward for a patriarchal society such as ours, facing the problem of violence against women, small representation of women in decision-making positions, discrimination of women, traditional division of roles between men and women, etc., the issue was not treated properly.
