Activists and supporters of the Zagreb Pride association held protests last Saturday, October 27, 2012, in front of the Macedonian Embassy, in Zvonimirova Street in Zagreb, against the grave violations of rights of LGBTIQ persons in Macedonia, who are subjected to public and media lynch.

The Centre for Support of the LGBTI Population, opened one-day earlier by the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Macedonia in Skopje’s Old Bazaar, was found stoned and its windows broken yesterday morning, October 24, 2012. The Kanal 5 TV reported that three masked persons attacked the Centre under the cover of the night.

The environmentalist associations “Eko-Stop” from Skopje, “Vila Zora” from Veles, “Grašnica“ from Ohrid and “Molika” from Bitola announced, on October 16, the start of implementation of “Protect Our Future” Project, with an initiative for legal definition of areas in which heavy industry will be allowed to be built and developed in Macedonia.

The organizations gathered in the “Freedom – Front for Freedom of Expression” Coalition, protest the opaque procedure for adoption of the draft-Law on Civil Defamation Liability and demanded, in the press-conference held today at the NGO Infocentre in Skopje, for the whole process to restart and for the process of drafting and adoption of the Law to include as many stake-holders as possible.

The civic initiative “Aman” has entered the second month of its protests against the higher prices of electricity and distance heating services, and the termination of the daily cheap electricity tariff for the week days. The activists of the initiative gather in protest every Tuesday, at 18:00 hours, at the Macedonia Gate (the triumphal arc in the centre of Skopje).

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights, Vienna, invites interested parties to submit proposals for evaluation of the project “Social Inclusion and Human Rights in Macedonia”.

The evaluation will be done by an evaluation team (senior and junior expert/evaluator), who need to have experience in evaluating development projects on the basis of the Human Rights Based Approach. Knowledge of the regional language(s) will be considered an asset.

The publication “Euro-Skepticism in Macedonia, Real Threat or a Bluff”, prepared by analyst Edmond Ademi, presented yesterday, September 11, 2012 at the EU Info Centre in Skopje, concludes that the euro-skepticism in Macedonia fluctuates and mainly depends on European Union’s policies towards Macedonia.

The publication concludes that although there is no relevant political party with anti-European platform at this time, the euro-skepticism in the country is very real.
