War Childhood
6. August 2012 - 12:51 — Sanela Gojak"The best birthday present I ever got - was steak for my 11th birthday from my neighbor Ranka. I was gamboling with joy! - Faris, 1981.", is just one of 1600 sentences by people or children of besieged Sarajevo, found and written on a web for the interactive project " War Childhood."
In just three months, from 35 countries of the world, 1600 people posted about their memories. Of course, using the internet and social networks made it easier, and the idea of a young Halilovic will result with a book, that is a Sarajevo’s children treasury of memories.
"The importance of the Internet for a project "War Childhood" is immeasurable. Documenting now, in the era of electronic media is much easier than before. In fact, collecting memories of so many people would require a hard field work, and it would be much more expensive. Social networks have also enabled people to find out early about this idea through their friends," said Halilovic.
As an ultimate goal which is imposed by this project is to send a message to the world from children of Sarajevo. And "War Childhood" brings a message of peace, but also noting: more of resembling books will follow if you allow to repeat Sarajevo.
Due to lack of funds the book was on a waiting for a while, for the publication and the promotion is planned for September this year.
Halilovic earlier launched online crowdfunding, at the urging of a friend.
"Crowdfunding campaign that we run on a platform Indiegogo did not give the desired results, but it will certainly help the project," said Halilovic, adding that with the help from media sponsor (Klix.ba), he regained bringing back the project to the public attention.
The idea of Crowdfunding is that as many people provide themselves a product in advance, but at the same time to help project realisation.
"We are planning to translate online editions of “War Childhood " because it is not realistic to expect that it will be possible to print them. And for our release - perhaps in the second stage, why not." said Jasminko Halilovic.
To remind, Jasminko Halilovic had a wish to create a book that would be dedicated to Mirela Plocic, his first crush and a girlfriend from childhood who was killed during the siege. However, he determined that the book is not to be constructed solely basing on his notes from the time of the siege of Sarajevo, but to give the same opportunity to all those people who spent part of their childhood in Sarajevo since year1992. to 1995.
