Awards for Achievement in the Fight against Discrimination Presented

May 2012 - 13:12 — Dejan GeorgievskiThe Coalition against Discrimination presented, last Friday, May 4, at a ceremony held at the Media Centre Belgrade, its Annual Awards for achievements in the fight against discrimination for 2011. The awards were presented to the winners by Vincent Degert, the Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia.

The Annual Awards for Achievement in the Fight against Discrimination went to Dragana Todorović, associate with the Novi Sad's Office of Gender Equality in the gathegory of bodies of public governance; to the „Spomenik” Group in the civil society category; to Ebart Media Documentation in the business sector category; journalist Snežana Čongradina; and film director Stevan Filipović.
The Award for achievement in the fight against discrimination is presented by the Coalition against Discrimination in recognition to individuals, organisations, institutions, companies and media outlets that have made significant effort, in a calendar year, in the area of prevention and eradication of discrimination against minority and marginalized groups and for promotion of equality of all citizens of Serbia.
The winners are selected by the Coalition, on basis of proposals and nominations made by individuals and organisations.
Before the awards ceremony, the Coalition against Discrimination presented its Report on discrimination in 2011, which notes that the problem of discrimination of Roma people and LGBT persons remains rampant in Serbia, and adds that the cancellation of the Belgade Pride was the most serious case of discrimination in the country in 2011.
