Call for Nominations for “Krunoslav Sukić“ Awards Opens11. September 2012 - 13:53 — Dejan Georgievski
The Centre for Peace, Non-Violence and Human Rights from Osijek opened, on September 5, 2012, the call for nominations for the “Krunoslav Sukić“ Awards for promotion of peace, non-violence and human rights for 2012. The awards are given for extraordinary contributions to protection and promotion of human rights and freedoms, and for excellent and persistent promotion of culture of peace and non-violence in the Republic of Croatia.
“With the "Krunoslav Sukić" Awards, we aim to contribute to improved visibility of solidarity, persistent, creative and courageous actions of individual citizens and civic initiatives in the effort to prevent violence, alleviation of social injustice and building of democratic society based on the culture of non-violence. We want to encourage the people to use their political power for positive social change”, says the Centre for Peace.
In addition to the main award which is given to persons for their actions in the Republic of Croatia, the Centre for Peace will also present several diplomas of recognition for promotion of peace, non-violence and human rights in the local communities.
It will also present a special recognition diploma for non-violent action in Croatia – it goes to persons, organisations or initiatives – and the „Krunoslav Sukić“ book award that goes to the author or authors of a book published in Croatia in 2011/2012, and makes contribution to the creation of ambience of better understanding fo peace-making, non-violent action, human rights and civil society.
The nominations should be submitted before close of business on November 15, 2012. The awards will be given to the winners in an awards ceremony that will be held in Osijek on December 10, 2012, the International Day of Human Rights.
The awards for promotion of peace-making, non-violence and human rights are named after Krunoslav Sukić, one of the founders of the Centre for Peace, peace activist and humanitarian. The awards were established in 2009.
