Creative Commons in Sarajevo
1. November 2012 - 13:27 — Dejan GeorgievskiA gathering that discussed the topic of Creative Commons in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held on October 30-31, 2012 in Sarajevo. The gathering was organized by the Centre for Cultural and Media Decontamination, the CPI Foundation, the Linux Association of BiH, Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo, the BiH Pirate Party informal group and the Foundation OneWorld Platform for SEE.
Jonas Oberg, the regional coordinator at Creative Commons Europe, the featured guest of the gathering, presented to the participants the brief history of the organization, with special attention to the importance of CC licenses in contemporary world.

Oberg also mentioned the new media and noted that the importance of a news report is measured by the number of people that have read it. He also noted the importance of citizens’ journalism in which citizens take active participation in dissipation of information.
The digitalization allowed for easier and quicker access to scientific works and their sharing.
“CC licenses allow for legal sharing of scientific works with full respect for copyrights”, Oberg said.
Lamija Topčagić presented her paper on the topic of “Creative Commons and Copyleft” she prepared for her graduate studies at the Faculty Comparative Literature and Library Sciences in Sarajevo.
Participants and visitors contributed to the success of the event
Danijela Dugančić-Živanović, representative of Bring In Take Out Living Archive (LA) that deals with the relationship of feminism and contemporary artistic practices, presented the “Red Kiosk” Project.
Novica Nosović from the Faculty of Electrica Engineering, presented the book “Osnove računarskih arhitektura” (Basic Computer Architectures) he co-authored with Željkom Jurić and published under a CC license, and Irmin Imamović presented the Oscilator.net label.
The event was supported by USAID, under its “Strengthening of Independent Media in BiH” Programme, implemented by Internews.
