The interested citizens can still join the translation marathon for the Ushahidi platform into BHS language that started yesterday, October 28, and will be concluded tomorrow, October 30, 2012. The marathon is organized by the Al Jazeera Media Network and the Foundation OneWorld Platform for Southeast Europe.

The translation is conducted on the Transifex localisation platform, and registration is simple and quick. Now, the fact is that, at the moment of publication of this article, not too much is left for translation, but any help is more than welcome.

Ushahidi is a non-profit software company that develops free and open software for collection and visualisation of information and interactive mapping. The organisation uses the concept of crowdsourcing for social activism and public accountability.

Ushahidi offers products that allow local observers to submit reports by mobile phones or on the internet, simultaneously creating a temporal and geospatial archive of events.

Haris Ališić, analyst with Al Jazeera Balkans, says that previous experiences with crisis mapping, like last years crisis map of the snowstorms in the region proved that „Ushahidi is invaluable... as a quick and easy to use tool that helped us keep the region informed and give access to critical info to the people of the region“.

For short instructions how to apply and join the marathon, see the Ushahidi blog post dedicated to the translation marathon in BiH
