From 29th June till 5th of July Prilep and Skopje will be hosts for first FemFestival in Macedonia.

Who stands behind Femfest?

Femfest is organized by „Peace Action“ (Prilep), „Akcija Zdruzenska“ (Skopje) and many friends.

What are our reasons for organizing a festival like this in Macedonia?

Because:

…we want to stimulate dialogue on topics which are seldom discussed in public (such as gender discrimination, violence against womyn, the influence of today’s media on female standards of beauty, etc.)!

….we want to confront and break down the patriarchy, sexism, and discrimination that is still present across the globe!

…we still live in a sexist and patriarchal environment, and we want to change our society’s status quo!

…we want to challenge the system of values that seeks to impose us, a system which restrains, conditions, exploits, and oppresses the individual!

…the world of music, film, and art is still dominated by men!

…the festival is not only about performances, gigs and workshops; its objectives are also to encourage womyn to collaborate, to support one other, to feel safe and empowered, to be creative, to share their experiences with discrimination…simply creating a womyn’s spacе!

…to contribute to an environment based on solidarity rather than rivalry, where everyone is accepted and supported for who they are!

…we want everyone to have fun, sing, dance – to celebrate life!

…to wake Macedonia up and out of its drowsy state!
