Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence16. February 2012 - 10:22 — Dejan Georgievski
The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), in cooperation with the Robert Bosch Foundation and the ERSTE Foundation, announced open the sixth annual competition under the “Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence” Programme. This year’s theme is the communities, and journalists from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Kosovo can apply by March 5, 2012.
The ten selected journalists will receive a scholarship to the amount of €2,000, up to €2,000 for travel and research costs, and an opportunity to take part in workshops and seminars in Vienna and Skopje. In addition, the three best produced articles, selected by a jury of media professionals, will win awards of €4,000, €3,000 and €2,000.
The candidates are expected to research different communities – political, economic, national, gender, generational – and their relations. In addition to their own respective countries, the candidates are expected to extend their focus to at least one more country in the region and in the European Union, and to cover phenomena that are original and of relevance. The ten stories produced under the programme will be published in relevant regional and international media.
