“Missing Lives” Exhibition Opens

Nestali zivotiThe Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, opens today, August 30, 2010, at the Children of Sarajevo Square, the “Missing Lives” open-air exhibition, on the occasion of International Day of the Disappeared. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Missing Persons Institute and International Commission for Missing Persons.

YIHR Unveils Commemorative Plaque for Victims of "Oluja" Campaign

Spomen ploca YIHROn the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the military campaign “Oluja” (Storm), conducted by Croatian armed forces in August 1995, the Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Croatia (YIHR) unveiled, on Autust 5, a commemorative plaque on the northern road out of Knin which was used by fleeing refugees from the town and its surroundings, some of them to never return to the area.

Josipović pledges to stop ostracism of returnees

Ivo JosipovicCroatian President Ivo Josipović paid a visit to Serb returnees and Croats that were settled in the region of Zadar, to hear the returnees' complaints about slow and expensive bureaucracy. They also complained that local authorities don't see them as part of the local community.

refugeesWorld Refugee Day, observed June 20 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world. On 4 December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 55/76 decided that, from 2001, 20 June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day. In this resolution, the General Assembly noted that 2001 marked the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.

The Roma from Germany Don’t Want to Go Back to Kosovo

The Central Council of Roma in Germany demanded from the German Government to revoke the agreement for repatriation with Kosovo and demand that all those who have stayed in Germany for more than ten years to be awarded permanent residency status. According to the Council, the Roma are still targeted community in the Balkans.
