CDCS: Abolition of Ministry of Human and Minority Rights would be a Grave Mistake

cdcs logoThe Centre for Development of Civil Society (CDCS) believes that the debate in the Government of Serbia on the possibility to abolish the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and the Ministry of Religion as independent ministries, and to transfer the competences over matters related to human and minority rights to the Ministry of Justice would be a serious mistake.

EU Projects for Improved Living Standards for the Roma in Serbia

Two projects for improved quality of living for Roma and other socially vulnerable groups, financed with 8 million Euro from EU pre-accession funds, will start in Serbia, announced Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić yesterday.

Đelić chaired the session of the Council for Improvement of Status of Roma and announced the start of the “Education for All” and “Social Inclusion” projects.

CDCS: Without Prevention, Fear May Spread from Temerin all over Vojvodina

TemerinTemerinThe Centre for Development of Civil Society (CDCS) warned, after the latest inter-ethnic incidents in Temerin, Vojvodina, that past experiences with growing indicents in Vojvodina (December 2003-October 2005) and CDCS's research at the time point out that what happens in Temerin, the most vulnerable community in the province, today could quickly spread to large parts of Vojvodina.

National Roma Centrum Continues with Education Projects

The National Roma Centrum (NRC) from Kumanovo will continue with its projects in the area of education in 2010, with the ultimate goal to overcome barriers faced by Roma children in education institutions.

New Homes for Roma from Mošćanica

A delegation of Stari Grad Municipality (Sarajevo), including Mayor’s advisor Ismet Hadžić, Chief of Mayor’s Cabinet Aida Bajramović, deputy Head of Property and Cadastre Office Nevzeta Mulalić and deputy Mayor for social and healthcare, refugees and IDPs Rešad Jusupović, presented, on October 26, 2009, the keys and contracts to six Roma families from Mošćanica, who were able to move into their new homes.

The Roma from Germany Don’t Want to Go Back to Kosovo

The Central Council of Roma in Germany demanded from the German Government to revoke the agreement for repatriation with Kosovo and demand that all those who have stayed in Germany for more than ten years to be awarded permanent residency status. According to the Council, the Roma are still targeted community in the Balkans.
